The Manning Parks and Recreation department has announced plans for city park improvements, including a new large play unit to replace the current equipment. Plans include replacing the pea gravel beneath the new unit with a rubber mat.

An eight-member committee is planning to kick off fundraising for the equipment July 14 at the city park from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks will be served for free-will donation. Hillside Splash will be open for free use.

Cost of the new unit is $150,000 and $100,000 for the large rubber mat. The committee is working to raise money for the purchase. A silent auction will be held. Auction items include the wooden playhouse, a large landscaping rock and a pool party. Other items will be added.

The committee plans to replace the wooden train with another made from a durable material. Plans call for some tree removal.

Members of the group, in addition to Rec Director Cory Arp and City Administrator Dawn Meyer, are Lauren Vanderhorst, Melissa Puck, Katie Wall, Jean Stadtlander, Kara Havick, and Sheryl Dammann.
